Jullio Writing his ABC’s

Ministry happens in many different ways.  Our next-door neighbor’s children have missed out on school for the past two years.  Deb has recently been teaching the two youngest, Uno and Jullio, to read in our home.  Combined with the opportunity to attend church with us on Sundays, their education is expanding. 

 “Aiming For the Impossible”

This was the theme for the Northern Philippines Annual Conference held March 14-15.  Pastors and delegates were pleased to see we had grown 9.5% this past year in membership.  With growing 11.5% in both 2005 and 2006, we continue on the journey to see God do the impossible in 2008!  Bishop Tuan has again asked Jim to oversee the Annual Conference for 2008-09 so your prayers are coveted.

 As of this week, Jim will also assume the role of Administrative Pastor for the Kamuning FMC.  Ronilo Bating, a Filipino pastor who graduated this March from Asia Pacific Nazarene Seminary, will share the pastoral responsibilities.

HOSPITAL  NOTES

March 20 found Deb in route to the USA for a couple of weeks, to help care for her mother, Mary Whitteberry, following emergency surgery, at Mayo Clinic.  In the last 24 hours, after 4 weeks in the hospital with minimal recovery and on the brink of a new corrective surgery, Mary’s digestive system is showing signs of recovery for the first time.   If all continues to go well, she will be able to start a liquid diet tomorrow and have the NG (nasal gastric) tube out the following day.  No other surgery is needed at this time.  Many, many thanks to God and to you, our prayer partners, who have kept this in prayer.

PRAISES & PETITIONS

v  Jim had a productive trip attending the Asia Leadership Team (ALT) meetings in Malaysia March 4-9.  The Malaysia church now has 200 full members with worship in English, Chinese, and Bahasa Malaysia.  Attending the 6^th anniversary, it was inspiring to see this new church give 20% of its income to evangelism and missions.  Helpful discussions were held in how to raise Country Shares under our new fund-raising paradigm.

v  Our son John had an excellent qtr. with all A’s and B’s.  He continues to grow in faith and maturity.

v  50% of the commitments for the country shares for the Philippines came in by April 1.  This enabled the Bible College and church planters to receive their needed support for the 2^nd qtr.  Thank you for making this possible.

v  Pray for wisdom, vision, and good time management as Jim takes on the additional role of pastor on top of an already full schedule;  pray for Pastor Ronilo and Jim in this multicultural team effort with its unique challenges.

v  Thank you to each church and individual who has committed toward our MSA (Missionary Support Account) for 2008.  As of April 1, we are only lacking $7,235.95 in commitments to end the year in the black.

v  Pray for Christie as she seeks a summer job opportunity.
